Meters are replaced periodically as they age and as new technology becomes available. We are excited to implement these new smart meters that use advanced metering infrastructure, or AMI. This upgrade will improve the efficiency of our meter reading process and will ensure consistent service delivery to all customers served by Union County Water. Customers with smart meters can view their usage data in our Customer Portal.

Our contractor began replacing meters in August 2024; the work is estimated to continue throughthe Spring of 2026. 

When our contractor is actively working at your address, you will experience a lapse of water service for approximately 10-15 minutes. If you are using water during the time of installation, our contractor will attempt to ask you to stop using water before interrupting your water service. 

No, you do not need to be home when the new meter is installed. 

As this project is nearly complete, updates will be provided on our website. 

We have sent notifications to the affected customers by email. If you did not receive a notification from us, please ensure that we have a good email address for you on your account. You can also update your contact information on your account using this brief online form. 

Our contractor will leave a doorhanger at your front door when your meter has been replaced. Please note that many of our customers already have a smart meter; this is because we have been shifting to the use of smart meters over time. This meter replacement project will help us ensure that all customers have meters with the same capabilities.

Customers will not be charged for the new meter. Meters are the property of Union County Water, and our Capital Improvement Program is funding this project.
