Union County Water has been working to equip every customer across our service area with smart meters that use advanced metering infrastructure, or AMI. These meters will improve the efficiency of our meter reading process. Customers will not be charged for these new meters, as meters are part of our public infrastructure that we use to deliver the reliable, clean water that you count on every day.

This major project is nearing completion, as approximately 98% of our customers now have a smart meter serving their home, business or organization.

If you have recently received an email from us about this project, this page has valuable information about what you can expect about the installation process and a helpful video about how to read your new smart meter.

What to Expect

Customers may see our contractors working at their meter box, typically located near the street edge, for approximately half an hour. During this time, water service will be interrupted for about 10 minutes. Our contractor will test the new meter by running about 10 gallons of water from an exterior hose or faucet. The contractor will leave a doorhanger at the customer’s front door when the work is complete.

Contractors will carry proper identification and will have successfully completed a comprehensive background check; contractor vehicles will also be clearly marked as doing business for Union County Water.
