The two biggest causes of sewer clogs are FOG (fats, oils and grease) and “flushable” wipes - which are not flushable at all. These clogs lead to sewer backups and sanitary sewer overflows. The good news is they are preventable. All it takes is a few small changes in your daily routine to help keep your home’s pipes and our wastewater system free flowing.

When FOG (fats, oil and grease) enters our sewer system, it cools and hardens, clinging to pipe walls. Over time, it builds up and leads to blockages in the system lines.

These blockages prevent the normal flow of wastewater and eventually cause overflows, resulting in damage to homes, businesses and the environment. We need your help in disposing of FOG in safer, more environmentally-friendly methods.

FOG comes from meat fats, fried foods, scraps, cooking oil, baked goods, butter, margarine, and dairy products. With your help, we can reduce FOG-related blockages and help preserve the environment.
