Union County practices water conservation year-round, regardless of rainfall conditions or drought status. This means our water customers are required to follow restrictions for water usage year-round, based on the current stage of water shortage.

During our least restrictive stages of water shortage, customers are required to limit the use of water for irrigation purposes, unless they receive a temporary variance (or exception) to the County’s restrictions on water use. Customers must demonstrate a legitimate reason why they need to irrigate more frequently than allowed, and applications for a variance are accepted only when the County is in Stage 0, Stage 1, or Stage 2 of water shortage. The current stage of water shortage can be found on our Current Stage of Water Restrictions page.

To apply for a variance to the County’s water usage restrictions, please complete the form below and a staff member will follow up with you. Please note that - if issued - an irrigation variance cannot exceed 45 days.
