Protect Your Pipes: Homeowner's Responsibility

As your home’s exterior water and sewer service lines age, you still rely on them to bring fresh water to your home from the utility’s water main and remove wastewater from your home to the utility’s sewer main. Exterior water or sewer service line breakdowns can be caused by normal wear and tear, aging, ground shifts due to changing weather conditions, and vegetation. Because these lines are buried underground and typically not inspected, it’s almost impossible to know when or how a breakdown might occur.

Unless your home’s service lines have been replaced, they are likely the same lines that were installed at the time your home was built. Aging pipes can break down, leading to potentially expensive repairs for which the homeowner is responsible.

While Union County Water crews maintain about 2,000 miles of water and wastewater lines across the County, the public water and wastewater system does not include the service lines on your property.
