Call Union County Water Customer Care at 704-296-4210 immediately - 24 hours a day/seven days a week - to report a wastewater emergency - such as a sewer backup, sewer overflow, an alarm at a wastewater facility, or illegal dumping in the wastewater system.

For examples of each of these situations, please see below.

Sewer Back-Up

If you experience a sewer back-up at home, call us for advice. Our staff will ask a few questions to help determine if our staff should check for blockages in our system near your home. If you’re having a problem with one plumbing fixture, check other fixtures in your home before calling us to get an idea of the severity of the issue. This will help us determine if you’re facing a typical household plumbing issue or if there could be a larger issue involving our system.

SSOSewer Overflow

If you see sanitary sewer overflowing as shown in the photo at right, please call 704-296-4210 or 704-289-1591 immediately (24/7) so that we can work to control the overflow.

Alarm at a Wastewater Facility

Wastewater pump stations are located throughout our collection system to pump wastewater uphill. These stations are equipped with both a visual alarm (a red light) and an audible alarm (a horn). If you see or hear these alarms from a pump station, please call 704-296-4210 immediately (24/7) and let us know the location so we can investigate.

Illegal Dumping in the Wastewater System

While some emergencies are unavoidable, this issue is completely preventable through accountability and enforcement. If you witness someone dumping into the public wastewater system, please get a description of their vehicle and the location and report it to us immediately by calling 704-296-4210 or by email to water@unioncountync.gov
