Union County Water identifies and implements projects that are needed for our system to meet the needs of today’s customers and future generations. The project list and the scope of each project are finalized during the County’s annual budget deliberations. During this time, the Union County Board of Commissioners considers system needs and available funding in order to develop a final work plan for staff to implement over the following five years. This work plan is known as the Capital Improvement Program, or CIP.

While the CIP focuses on five years of specific projects, it also provides a 20-year projection of community needs based on current population growth trends, population distribution trends and historical demand data, among other factors. The adopted CIP addresses the water and wastewater system needs for improvement, expansion, maintenance, rehabilitation, and renewal. The comprehensive CIP strives to strike a balance between expansion and maintenance needs, while ensuring the capacity and affordability of the system.

Union County Water funds the Capital Improvement Program from rates and fees charged to customers and developers. Union County Water is not funded by tax dollars.
