Easements
Easements give our staff the legal right to make appropriate use of privately owned land to inspect, maintain, repair, and replace our infrastructure. If you have an easement crossing your property, it is important that our access is not restricted. Our staff must be able to reach our infrastructure for routine and emergency maintenance and repairs.
A sewer easement usually runs parallel with the rear or side boundary of two properties. They are commonly 30 feet wide. Pipes, manholes and meters are often located in the approximate center of an easement, however easements may be located elsewhere.
There are several types of obstructions that could prevent our staff from accessing the sewer and water infrastructure in an easement area, such as fences, swing sets, swimming pools, sheds, home additions, garages, tennis courts and trees. Please review the questions and answers below to learn more.
Excavations & Markings
Union County Water operates around the clock to provide you with reliable water and sewer service. At times, system maintenance requires us to excavate to access the water and sewer lines.
Review the information below to gain a better understanding of what to expect should our crews need to excavate in an easement on or near your property.
