Several staff members comprise teams who represent us at state and national conferences, and our teams have brought many trophies home to Union County.  

Education & Training

As many positions with Union County Water require certifications and education for employment or advancement, we offer numerous opportunities for on-the-job training and are committed to our employees' professional growth. We are fortunate to have many employees who are certified trainers and recognized experts in their fields, giving our staff better access to resources and education.

As a department of Union County, our employees have full access to the County's tuition reimbursement program.

Safety is our goal every day. We work collaboratively with the Union County Security and Risk Management Department to ensure that we follow best practices and we are proud of our achievements in worker safety.  

For calendar year 2025, we won our seventh consecutive Gold Award for Safety from the N.C. Department of Labor, an objective demonstration of our proven efforts to ensure a safe working environment for our employees.

Community Involvement

Union County Water is a member of NCWaterWarn, a mutual aid organization through which we provide support for fellow water utilities throughout the state after natural disasters and other emergencies. 

• In 2025, North Carolina Emergency Management recognized our efforts to support communities in the North Carolina mountains following Hurricane Helene. 
• In 2026, our crews were honored for their efforts to assist our neighbors in Anson County with repairs to their water system. 

Volunteerism is integral to our work culture. Union County employees receive two days of paid volunteer time off each year, and many Union County Water employees spend that time volunteering together with local food pantries, helping with the Union County Christmas Bureau, or beautifying our community through litter clean-up events.
