Union County Water is joining utilities nationwide in recognizing Fix a Leak Week during the week of March 16-22, 2026. The annual initiative highlights the importance of finding and fixing household leaks to prevent water waste and reduce utility costs. Even small leaks - such as a dripping faucet or running toilet - can waste thousands of gallons of water each year.
Fixing leaks starts with finding leaks. To help identify potential leaks in your home, watch our helpful video, “Water Loss Around Your Home.” The video explains common sources of household leaks, demonstrates how to read your water meter to detect continuous usage, and provides practical tips for making simple repairs. Customers who have experienced an unexpected increase in water usage may find this information especially helpful.
Monitoring your water use and addressing leaks promptly not only lowers your monthly bill but also supports broader water conservation efforts. As a public utility, Union County Water remains committed to protecting our community’s water supply and promoting responsible water use year-round.
Customers who discover and repair a qualifying leak may also be eligible to apply for assistance through our Water Loss Adjustment Program. Available year-round, this program reimburses customers for repairs to leaks around their home. Visit the program page to learn about eligibility requirements and apply today.
Keep in mind: many leaks don’t make noise, leave puddles, or give obvious warning signs - they often stay hidden until they appear on your monthly statement as higher-than-expected costs. A running toilet, underground irrigation leak or slow drip behind a wall can quietly waste thousands of gallons before you ever see visible damage. Fix a Leak Week (March 16–22, 2026) is an important reminder to stay proactive. Finding and repairing small leaks early can help ensure your next water bill is exactly what you expect it to be.
