Overflows within the Union County sanitary sewer system on Monday, Feb. 16, resulted in an estimated 13,050 gallons of wastewater entering Crooked Creek. The sanitary sewer overflow occurred near 4015 Sardis Church Road, Monroe.
The overflows were not of the magnitude to cause immediate danger to the health of residents or the environment. All pipes, pumps and equipment were operating properly prior to the overflows. Staff determined that heavy rain caused the overflows.
Per regulatory requirements, the overflows have been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
