Drought Conditions: Confirm Conservation Guidance with Your Water Provider

Post Date:01/29/2026 3:51 PM

Water Tower - 400x400As communities across the Southeastern United States continue to experience a persistent drought, Union County encourages all residents to be mindful of their water use and to follow the guidance of your water service provider for any water use restrictions that may be required.

Union County Water staff are closely monitoring the drought conditions as part of their ongoing work to ensure adequate water supply for all County water customers. At this time, Union County Water remains in our lowest tier of water use restrictions (Stage 0), which includes mandatory restrictions that pertain only to irrigation systems. Staff will continue to rely on the U.S. Drought Monitor and other trusted data sources before making any recommendations for a change to these restrictions. Changes to Union County Water’s water restrictions will be shared on the Union County websitethe Union County Water website, and with Union County Water customers directly. Union County Water customers can ensure their contact information is current on their account by using this webform to contact Customer Care.

As some Union County residents receive their water from municipal water systems in Marshville, Monroe or Wingate, it is important that County residents refer to guidance from their service provider about any impacts to their water service, including water conservation restrictions. Just as each local government is managed separately, each water service provider functions separately with its own distribution system, water supply and treatment plants.

For example, the City of Monroe recently announced that it has shifted to Stage 1 Water Conservation. This announcement affects City of Monroe water customers only, not Union County Water customers. Union County encourages Monroe water customers to look to the City of Monroe for guidance and future updates. Union County Water’s Customer Care team cannot assist customers of other utilities with questions about their accounts or guidance about water use; please use this contact information for other water utilities in Union County:

Fire Safety During Times of Drought

Particularly during dry conditions and in times of drought, the Union County Fire Marshal’s Office reminds residents of the potential dangers of outdoor burning. Please consult the N.C. Forest Service for fire prevention tips and to obtain a burn permit where required.
