Union County Water is proud to provide our customers with reliable water and wastewater services throughout the year. We are particularly proud to maintain this commitment in severe weather. To read more about our resiliency plans in the event of a power outage, read here.

We encourage you to follow the guidance of state and local authorities to stay home as road conditions are unsafe for travel. Our operations crews will continue to respond to water and wastewater emergencies as quickly as possible. You can help our staff work safely and quickly by looking out for them as you drive - particularly in severe weather - and by giving them room to work.

Remember: work zones are workers' zones. Help us ensure that every crew member goes home at the end of the work day.

If you do encounter utility crews in the roadway, follow these tips:

  • Slow Down. Reduce your speed while driving through work zones. Driving at a slower speed gives you more time to react to sudden stops, lane shifts or workers on the road.
  • Stay Alert. Don't use your cell phone while driving. Focus your attention entirely on the road and the people working near it.
  • Watch for Signs & Vehicles. While not all utility incidents have signed closures, look for signs or utility trucks as an indication that workers are present.
  • Leave Space. Leave plenty of space between your car and the vehicle in front of you.
  • Be Patient. Delays can be frustrating, but rushing through a work zone puts everyone at risk. A few extra minutes of drive time is a small price to pay for someone's life and safety.
