Sanitary Sewer Overflow Impacts Crooked Creek

Post Date:10/31/2025 12:15 PM

An overflow within the Union County sanitary sewer system on Thursday, Oct. 30 resulted in an estimated 16,000 gallons of wastewater entering Crooked Creek. The sanitary sewer overflow occurred near 1008 Terrapin St. in Indian Trail.

The overflow was not of the magnitude to cause immediate danger to the health of residents or the environment. All pipes, pumps and equipment were operating properly prior to the overflow. Staff determined that the overflow was caused by a split in the sewer force main.

Per regulatory requirements, the overflow has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

For more information, residents and customers may call Union County Water at 704-296-4210.
