Conserve Water with Free Soil Testing

Post Date:09/09/2025 8:11 AM

Want to save on your monthly water bill? You can start by being smart with water use outdoors and only using the amount of water your soil needs to thrive. Union County residents can take advantage of free soil testing from April through November to make irrigation more efficient and conserve water.

Why Test Your Soil?

  • Avoid Overwatering: Healthy soil holds water better. Testing shows you what nutrients your soil already has so plants can absorb water more efficiently.
  • Prevent Waste: When you know exactly what your soil needs, you avoid overusing fertilizer or water.
  • Smarter Irrigation: Results come with specific recommendations, helping you water just the right amount.

Easy and Free

Soil testing kits are available at the Union County Agricultural Center and at all Union County Library locations. Simply collect samples, submit them, and you’ll receive customized results to guide your lawn and garden care. From April through November, the test is completely free.

Why It Matters

Union County’s soils and changing weather can make irrigation tricky. Testing helps you:

  • Use less water and lower your bill
  • Improve plant health and drought resilience
  • Protect local waterways from runoff
