Union County Water encourages all customers to participate in the County's annual Household Hazardous Waste collection event. Hosted by Union County Solid Waste, this annual event provides County residents with a free opportunity to dispose of household quantities of certain hazardous materials. This year's event has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Union County Agricultural Center (3230 Presson Road, Monroe). 

For the safety of the public, the environment, our public wastewater system, and your home's plumbing system, hazardous materials should never be poured down the drain or flushed down the toilet. Please dispose of these materials safely at the Household Hazardous Waste event. 

All materials brought to this event must be in their original labeled containers. Here's what you can bring for free disposal: 

• paints & stains
  • full or partially full cans of spray paint (up to 10 cans)
  • oil-based paints & stains*
  • note: not all paints are considered hazardous waste. Learn how to dispose of water-based paints safely at home.
• pesticides & herbicides*
• household cleaners*
• gasoline*
  *up to five gallons each of any of the above materials

• up to three propane or helium tanks (grill size only)

• up to five boxes of documents for shredding

• expired or unneeded medications (over-the-counter, prescription, or unknown) for safe disposal through Operation Medicine Drop, a service of the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
