How Your New Meter Will Appear on Your Billing Statement

There's No Charge for Your New Meter

Post Date:10/28/2024 5:24 PM

We're making significant progress on our Smart Meters project. This project involves upgrading to new smart meters in our service area. While customers are not charged for these new meters, there's information that we want you to know.

As you may be aware, our meter readings appear on every billing statement, to show your metered charges for that month. After your meter has been upgraded, your next billing statement will show readings for two meters*: your old meter and your new meter. One meter reading will show your old meter up until the date the upgrade occurred, which is when the old meter was removed from your meter box and replaced with the second meter; the second reading will show your new meter in a way that appears to be for an entire billing cycle, not just since the new meter was installed. However, since a meter cannot measure water use until it is installed, customers are not double charged for usage. The meter's read dates simply overlap for technical reasons.

Please know that your meter readings are correct; both the old meter and the new meter need to appear on your billing statement this way, but only for the month that the meter was replaced. Your future billing statements will revert to showing only one meter*.

*While most households only have one meter, some have more than one - such as a second meter for an accessory dwelling unit or an irrigation meter. If you normally have two meters shown on your billing statement, then your billing statement may show four meters for the month that your meters are replaced.
